Piers Plunge

Diving in New England can be iffy, especially when the weather has something to say about it. This far north is cold and the northeast is notoriously murky, however you learn to deal with it and it makes you a better diver. Some days you get surprisingly good visibility and the weather conditions line up to make a great dive day, this was not one of those… On this afternoon dive charter in early September we had to make the best of what we had and our divers were total rockstars. Despite lack of cold water experience this group of girls from one of our more prestigious local colleges turned out to be some tough mermaids and didn't complain once! We were first forced away from our original dive site, a barge off Calf Island, when the visibility turned out to be so low it mine as well been negative viz, we're talking 1m/3ft at best. We bailed that spot and fell back on good ol' Piers Park, which had quite nice viz for the morning's students at low tide, unfortunately it dropped by high tide and was only around 1.5m/5ft. but we didn't let that stop us. Exploring Piers Park underwater can be a interesting little dive site and we did our best, some days you just have to enjoy the escape from reality underwater. We can’t wait to have you back when there isn’t a big storm offshore and show you seals you can see and lobsters you can eat!
