Light & Shadows

The other day I went for a walk in the forest. I passed a fellow photographer where pleasantries were exchanged. He said he was from the next town over and was looking for light and shadows. I suggested a spot on the other side of town which had better evening light, and carried on my way. For the rest of my walk, in the back of my head, I kept looking for good examples of light and shadow, but not too seriously, and didn’t even notice by the time I was home, none had materialized. The next morning in the same forest, I came across what would be the pinnacle photo of my week. In a small vernal pool (trying to be a swamp) a perfect lone standing dead wood was illuminated in a wondrous spectacle of light piercing through the temperate canopy surrounded by dark shadows almost emerging from the swamp to try and swallow the light. I can’t help but think this is a great example of manifestation if nothing else. I’ve found, in my life, the more you seek, the less likely you are to find what it is you’re after, and the reverse is also true, if you let things happen and are open to anything, you tend to find more than what you were searching for to begin with. Well, enough hippie-dippy stuff, here’s to my mystery friend “Light & Shadows” I hope you found the epic shot you were looking for… I sure did!
