Dec 12 - Overcoming Shark Phobia

$55.00

It’s been a challenging week as far as conditions go. We’ve had our “Christmas Winds” arrive early and strong. These trade winds or “easterlies” pick up in winter and despite making the seas a bit choppy they also cool off the islands and areas by the equator and bring lots of minerals over in the form of dust from the Sahara desert.

Despite a less that ideal sea state and the wind pushing steady, we searched out the best conditions and had only 3 divers on board which meant everyone had ‘room to spit’. Even through a phobia of sharks and punching through the ocean swells our new diver Olivia did a fantastic job. First, we started off small with a baby nurse shark, then jumped right into a reef shark, followed quickly by 2, 3 and 4 reef sharks. Now, after our second day out and more time face to face with our toothy friends, I would say she’s pretty much a shark whisperer at this point. Can’t wait to see you guys next year!
