Cancun Naupaka
One of Hawaii’s most famous legends is built around naupaka, a shrub found in the mountains or seaside. The flower’s unique appearance resembles only a half-flower, with petals missing—caused early Hawaiians to believe it was the incarnation of an ancient native separated from her lover.
This photo was taken in Cancun, Mexico where Naupaka (Scaevola) is becoming an invasive species in areas around the Caribbean and southern mainland United States.
FUN FACT: Naupaka leaves also makes a really good mask de-fog solution when diving and snorkeling if crushed up and rubbed on the inside of the lens.
